Buena Vista, Colorado? Where is that?

Don’t worry if you just asked yourself that question you would not be the first. Buena Vista, Colorado is Colorado’s best kept secret and the ideal spot for a wonderful, well rounded vacation – only if you rent Cruiser bikes though!

Buena Vista is great because it is close to just about everything, except any major interstates (thank goodness no traffic!) Buena Vista is 125 miles SW of Denver, 94 miles W of Colorado Springs, 63 miles NW of Aspen over independence Pass (incredible drive by the way!), and Breckenridge and the 1-70 corridor only 60 miles to the North.

With over 300 days of sunshine and notorious for its mild climate year-round Buena Vista, Colorado is named the “Banana Belt” Situated at just under 8,000ft the town of Buena Vista is nestled between the mostly 14,000 ft Sawatch Mountain Range to the West and The Buffalo Peaks to the East so our mountainous surroundings not only block out the cold weather but also provide for a splendid backdrop. However, that is all just information, what you really want to know is why would you come here? I’ll Tell you!

Buena Vista is home to the best of many things… Here is a short list.

The Country’s longest and best Whitewater Park located on the East side of town, all within walking (or better yet, Cruising!) distance from the downtown.
The highest concentration of 14,000 ft. Peaks in the state of Colorado - not to mention the continental U.S. (for the audience looking to bag a few.)
The most heavily trafficked section for Whitewater Rafting in the world! Yet you would never know it as a rafter! This is because the Arkansas Valley (named for the Arkansas River, I know tricky!) houses a section of whitewater for all tastes – from class I to class V – and it is SO FUN!
Best terrain in the State for Cruising on a bicycle. Seriously, there are tons of things to see and to do (check out our Map and Routes) and unlike most of Colorado it is basically flat here…until you get to the mountains and that’s another story.
Friendliest locals in the country.
The Colorado Trail – a 486 mile hiking trail from Denver to Durango - crosses through Buena Vista at multiple points, which means Chaffee County is home to some of the most beautiful sections of the state!
86% of the lands in Chaffe County are designated wildlife area. Does it get better than that!
Best Breweries and spirits in a 20 mile radius.
Best Doughnuts in the state of Colorado (Loback’s cinnamon crumb donuts, yummmmmy!)
With an estimated 3,000+ trout per mile in the Arkansas River the clear waters make for excellent fishing. Not to mention all the lakes in the area too!

** Some of the above statements are based on fact, some of them I will admit are purely opinion ; )
